Dealing with the tax authorities

In the Netherlands, taxpayers tend to be in touch with the tax authorities frequently and extensively. Sometimes communications are excellent, sometimes there’s friction. Van Minnen Tax Law helps to table the right issues with the right people in the tax office. A discussion can then serve to make choices, eliminate uncertainties and obtain tax incentives upfront as your business evolves. Such talks will normally lead to a clear position documented in an appropriate form: a settlement agreement, letter of approval (ruling), administrative decision or confirmation of an election made, tax assessment / refund, or in any event a recognition of positions taken (if disagreement continues).

Sometimes government prompt these talks: audits, questions about a tax return, an information request regarding third parties, exchange of information with other jurisdictions.
